How to Bind a Quilt Learn 6 different ways to bind your quilts with perfection – you'll have smooth and square mitered corners and even edges all the way around your quilt. www.HowToBindAQuilt.com |
This is a technique that is simple, once you have seen it and done it a couple of times.

Step 1
Stop sewing when you get 1/4 inch from the corner of your quilt. Take the quilt out of the machine. Fold the binding back on itself at a 45º angle.
You can stabilize the binding by placing a pin near the fold to hold it. If you do, be sure to place it so the head of the pin sticks out past the binding.

Step 2
Fold the binding down on itself, lining up the raw edge of the binding with the raw edge of the quilt.
Remove the pin from inside the fold of the binding, and place it on top of the newly-folded binding to hold all of the layers securely in place.

Step 3
Continue to stitch the binding on the next side.
Begin stitching at the edge of the quilt, to be sure to secure the binding in the corner.
That will ensure that your corner is mitered on the front as well.
