Ask Penny Halgren

Can you suggest a design or style of quilt that would be best for photos of a wedding?

My son is getting married in July and I would like to take some pictures and make them a quilt out of it. Can you suggest a design or style of quilt that would best suit this project? Also any suggestions for content/type of pictures I should try to get?

Greetings -

It is easy to transfer your photos onto fabric: http://www.graspr.com/videos/Transfer-Photos-onto-Fabric-in-this-case-Flannel-1

The easiest thing would be to transfer the photos onto squares or rectangles of fabric and then add sashing. Simple to do, and you can use some great fabric to make it interesting but not detract from the pictures of the wedding.

t shirt quilt with photos on fabricRecently I made a t-shirt photo quilt for my dad. I cut out t-shirts from trips he had taken with my kids and then alternated them with blocks.

The block I chose was called Eccentric Star - and that was kind of what he was. I used the center patch to include pictures of the things that were special to him.

This might be a possibility for you as well. There are several blocks that might be wedding-related that would be perfect between your photo blocks. Or there might be some that you could place your photo transfers into the center of.

There are hundreds of quilt block patterns at:

You might discover some great ideas there.

Hope that helps!

Happy Quilting!
