Ask Penny Halgren

I am making a t-shirt quilt. I have the t-shirts all sown together. What kind of binding and backing should I get to finish it off?

It's completely up to you. However, I really like the flannel I used for the backing on my t-shirt quilt. And, I just wrapped the backing around to the front.  You could also use a separate binding in flannel.

If you have used any 100% cotton fabric in your quilt, you could use cotton for the backing and binding.

I was told not to use a sheet for my backing. I 'm making a quilt out of all my flannel shirts. What would be a good backing material for this? Greetings - I would use flannel for the backing. Penny

I have many t-shirts of my late husbands and would like to make a quilt out of some cherished ones. How do I go about this? Do I cut the design out of the backs of the t-shirts then sew together?
