It's good you are wanting to start with something small.
Starting
small allows you to become familiar with your sewing machine, the
quarter-in seam allowance and your confidence in sewing.
Take any of the patterns available (or a variety of four or six) and start by making a small wall hanging or table topper.
Get used to cutting sewing and creating nice seams and arranging the blocks in a manner that is pleasing to you.
